Location
CO2 Unlocking one of the world’s largest onshore carbon storage opportunities — 18,221 km² in the Arckaringa Basin, South Australia, with capacity for up to 1.6 billion tonnes of CO2. Pioneering a low-cost, large-scale carbon capture solution built for the future.

The Boorthanna Trough of the Arckaringa Basin in South Australia provides a unique opportunity for carbon capture and storage.
The Arckaringa Basin, located in South Australia’s vast outback is ideal for CCS projects due to its unique geological setting with both subsurface gas-free coal seams and saline sandstone reservoirs. Proximity to mining industries supports energy-intensive operations, while abundant space and resources make it well-suited for Direct Air Capture (DAC) technologies.
The Arckaringa Basin is well positioned to benefit from any future CO2 importation infrastructure that may be developed in Port Bonython.
Carbon Vault 1 – (Boorthanna)

- CO2injected in saline sandstones reservoirs of the Boorthanna formation
- Injection into saline sandstones is becoming the more common storage target for CO2
- ACV map a Prospective Injection Resource of ~1.6 billion tonnes
Carbon Vault 2 – (Mt Toondina)

- A novel approach in Australia to inject CO2 and water into permeable coal seams
- ACV’s storage solutions will include injectivity into coals (via adsorption) as well as sandstones (pore space)
- ACV calculate a Prospective Injection Resource of ~1.6 billion tonnes of CO2
